Description
Core Technical Architecture
The module is built around the MFRC522 IC, which utilizes an advanced modulation and demodulation concept for all kinds of passive contactless communication methods at 13.56 MHz.
- RF Field Generation: The onboard PCB antenna creates an electromagnetic field. When a tag enters this field, it is powered by induction (no battery needed in the tag).
- Protocol Support: It specifically supports ISO/IEC 14443 A and MIFARE classic encryption (Crypto1).
- Power Consumption: * Active Current: 13–26mA (at 3.3V)
- Idle Current: 10–13mA
- Sleep Current: <80uA
Implementation Requirements
To get this module running, a user typically needs:
- Library: For Arduino, the most reliable is the “MFRC522 by GithubCommunity” library.
- Logic Level Shifter: If using a 5V microcontroller (like the Arduino Uno) for the data pins, a level shifter is recommended for long-term stability, though many hobbyists connect SPI pins directly (VCC must still be 3.3V).
- UID Reading: The basic code will output a Unique Identifier (UID) for each card (e.g., DE 4F 1A 5C).
